Having started stand-up in October 2008, Max Dickins has established himself as one of the most promising new acts on the circuit. At Edinburgh in 2010 he shared an hour of stand-up with Sam Gore on the free fringe (called “A Calculated Riskâ€), and also performed paid gigs at both BBC Comedy Presents (Pleasance) and also Political Animal (The Stand).
Max performs regular paid twenties at clubs including The Frog and Bucket and XS Malarkey.
Review by Chortle’s Steve Bennett:
“Impressive...his modest, careful delivery perfectly showcases his often sterling material, derived from imaginative thinking and expressed with exquisite use of Englishâ€
Anthony J Brown:
“Max cuts an arresting onstage presence proffering sublime one liners laced with mirth-fuelled misanthropy and delivered with a hypnotic dark brown baritone. One to watch for the future. And indeed the present.â€
Tom Craine:
“Max Dickins is both an inventive and skilful joke writerâ€.
As well as stand-up, Max is also a much sought after sketch comedian. He has written and performed sketch shows for “The Leeds Tealights†at Edinburgh in 2009 and 2010:
2009: “Scenes of a Sketchual Nature†(4 stars in Three Weeks).
2010: "For Your Sins"
(4 stars from Three Weeks "...really brilliant material...Truly great stuff from the Leeds Tealights"
4 stars from The National Student "...a little sprinkling of genius...If you only go see one university sketch group, we reckon it should be Leeds Tealights"
4 stars from Broadway Baby "A storming success...writing was diverse and brimming with ingenuity...go and see this show"
Winner: Underbelly Sketch-Off 2010)
Max is currently part of the hotly tipped sketch troupe Dregs with comedian Winston Smith.
Max is also a Sony Radio Award nominated radio presenter on Absolute Radio.
